Christian D. Cruz, PhD attended the Zamorano Pan-American School of Agriculture, Honduras, where he received a B.S. degree in agronomy. He earned his M.S. in plant pathology at The Ohio State University, where he developed a strong interest in emerging plant diseases. In 2009 he joined Kansas State University’s Department of Plant Pathology where he worked on the emerging high consequence wheat blast disease as a doctoral student and later as a post-doctoral research associate.

For the past six years Cruz has been investigating the ecology and epidemiology of the wheat blast pathogen, and understanding the components of wheat blast resistance. During his time at KSU, he has played a major role and provided leadership for all of the research and extension activities in North and South America. Faculty members at the Department of Plant Pathology recently nominated him for a Research Assistant Professor position.
